Description
Federal hiring has undergone significant changes over the past 18 months, and strategies that worked for applicants just a few years ago may no longer be enough. New federal hiring policies are changing how jobs are advertised, how candidates are assessed, what applicants may be asked to provide, and how agencies identify and share qualified candidates. Career professionals need to understand these changes if they are going to provide current and accurate guidance to clients interested in federal employment.
This practical one-hour webinar will provide an up-to-date look at the federal hiring landscape and what the changes mean for job seekers. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the federal hiring process while exploring recent developments, including the Merit Hiring Plan, changes in applicant assessment, the new short-answer questions and the recent court decision affecting them, increased use of shared certificates and talent pools, and the federal government’s emphasis on early-career hiring. OPM is specifically expanding pooled hiring and shared certificates and has identified early-career recruitment as a priority, noting that only about 7% of the federal workforce is currently early career.
Designed for career counselors, coaches, workforce professionals, and college career services staff, the session will focus on what practitioners need to know to help students, recent graduates, career changers, displaced workers, and other clients understand federal opportunities and navigate an increasingly complex hiring system.
